Will Writing

A valid Will does not have to be complicated, but it does have to follow a few rules.

1. Capacity and age. You must be of legal age and of sound mind when you write it.

2. Clear intention. State plainly that the document is your Last Will and Testament and that it revokes any earlier Will.

3. Your beneficiaries. Name each person or charity clearly, with the share or specific asset intended for them.

4. Your executor. Appoint someone you trust, usually a lawyer, to carry out your instructions.

5. Signature and witnesses. Sign the Will and have it attested by witnesses who are not beneficiaries.

6. Safekeeping. Store the Will somewhere your executor can actually reach it.
